Hi, I’m Sammy and I love a good story. Why? Stories are the heartbeats of our lives. We live them everyday and live to tell about them after.
Stories found in books, the media, and all of life have the power to help people
…engage in CONVERSATION about topics that are either personal or divisive.
Books often delve into issues and topics that are difficult to discuss. The safety of a book club can allow members, who are not alike, to discuss difficult issues in a less personal way.
Building friendships as adults can feel awkward at times. Gathering around the shared experience of a book is a way to eliminate some of that awkwardness and get to know people you might not have otherwise known.
…develop COMPASSION for others.
Reading widely allows each of us to develop compassion for situations we may never consider in our own lives. After growing in compassion for a character in the pages of a book, we are able to use that found compassion for people in our real lives.
This is a place to engage in good reading together, to see how the books we read challenge us to think and grow.
